Something a bit different to kick off the show this week. I recently watched Stanley Kubrick's 1968 masterpiece "2001: A Space Odyssey" again (for the umpteenth time!), and have had the introductory fanfare running through my head since. "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is a true "oldie but goodie", still thrilling listeners since Richard Strauss introduced it in 1896. As there are many compositional similarities between classical music and trance, I started wondering what the tone poem would sound like remixed with a trance beat. While the track has been covered many times before by artists as diverse as Eumir Deodato, Spacehog, and Phish (to name but a few) the mashup that leads off this week's show is a my own meager first attempt at it, one that I hope to improve upon later. The rest of the mix features some great new tracks - please let me know in the comments what you think.
